  • France became the 1st and the only country to make the abortion a constitutional right. Abortion laws in France are relatively liberal compared to many other countries. Abortion was legalized in France in 1975 through the Veil Law, named after then-Minister of Health Simone Veil. Under this law, abortion is legal during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy (14 weeks since a law was passed in 2021) upon request, and in some cases, it can be performed up to 24 weeks if there are serious health risks to the woman or if the fetus has a severe abnormality.

Punjab Budget

Key features of Punjab Budget 2024-25

Key features of Punjab Budget 2024-25 are given below:

  • Total Budget Expenditure of  Rs. 2,04,917.67 crore for FY 2024-25.
  • Harpreet Singh Cheema, Financial Minister Presenting Budget 2024-25.
  • As per the Advanced estimates provided by Directorate of Statistics, Punjab is growing  at a rate of 9.41% in the current year.
  • The GSDP stands at Rs. 7,36,423 crore & it has been estimated to grow at 9% to Rs. 8,02,701 crore in FY 2024-25.
  • The Effective Revenue Deficit and Fiscal Deficit are expected to be 2.77% and 3.80%, respectively and have improved from previous figure 3.13 % and 4.12%, respectively.
  • The total allocation for Agriculture in the Punjab Budget 2024-25 is Rs 13,784 crore.
  • Total allocation for Education sector in the 2024-25 Punjab Budget is 16,987 crore.
  • A budgetary outlay of Rs179 crore is proposed for employment generation and training schemes in FY 2024-25 including the Punjab Hunar Vikas Yojna.
  • Government has operationalised a total of 60 public Mining sites in 3 Phases and total quantity of 14.66 Lakh Metric Tonnes has been sold from these sites at pit head sale price of s 5.50 per cft. In the next phase, another 16 sites are expected to be launched soon in the state.
  • According to Punjab Budget FY25, E-buses would soon run in the cities of Jalandhar, Amritsar, Ludhiana and Patiala.
  • Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) related to water supply schemes and environmental rejuvenation, Rs394 crore is proposed.
  • An allocation of Rs 510 crore in FY 2024-25 for help people with pucca houses.
  • According to budget FY25 118  Government schools will be undergoing their transformation into state-of-art schools of Eminence.
  • “Mission Unnat Kisan” has been launched to provide timely technical information farmers for proper cultivation of cotton.
  • Government has also provided 33% subsidy on cotton seed to approx 87000 for farmers.
  • An MOU has been signed with SIDBI  for setting up of Chilli processing Center in Abohar.
  • According to budget FY25, 1000 sports nurseries will be established for approximately 60,000 sportspersons aged between 6 to 17 years in Punjab.
